                                   2nd International Conference on Child Friendly Asia Pacific
                          Surakarta City, Central Java, Indonesia, 30 June - 2 July 2011
 
The 2nd International Conference on Child Friendly Asia Pacific, through the generous support of the Government of Indonesia - Ministry for Women's Empowerment and Child Protection - will be held in Surakarta City, Central Java, Indonesia in 30 June - 2 July 2011. The focus of the conference will be on engaging children including supporting the role of children as active citizens and working with children to evaluate the quality of their environments. In addition to formal conference presentations participants will have the opportunity to meet and engage in hands-on research activities with local children in the city, take field trips, be a lunch guest of the Minister of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection and enjoy a dinner and cultural night with the Mayor of Surakarta City.

Keynote speakers over the three-days include:

Dr. Judith Ennew, Researcher with the NGO Knowing Children, Bangkok, Thailand, and co-author Children as Active Citizens

Professor Roger Hart, Co-Director, Children Environments Research Group, City University of New York and author of the seminal UNICEF publication Children’s Participation

Professor Karen MaloneResearcher,University of Western Sydney, CFAP Network Chair

Professor Ricardo HenriquesState Secretary of Social Welfare and Human Rights, State of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and Professor Economics Science at Universidade Federal Fluminense

 
In addition to the main program and presentations child friendly city delegates from across the globe a special two-day symposium on Children and Risk in Natural Disasters will be chaired by Dr Julie Rudner and Dr Kumi Tashiro with panel members from Japan, Indonesia and New Zealand speaking on current activities in these countries to support children during and in the recovery of natural disasters. A panel of best practices of Child Friendly City from Brazil, Viet Nam, and Indonesia will also take place in the agenda. Even so, an executive meeting for CFAP as well as a special session on the CFAP accreditation program that will include panel presentations from key staff in regional UNICEF offices will also be held.

 
Registration is now open on a first come, first served basis. Due to the logistic matter, registration is capped at about 500 delegates. Please Register and get your accreditation letter from the organizing committee to confirm your registration.

Participants should pay their own accommodations and air ticket fares, while the host country will provide all meals during the conference.
